Hamas Repeats Offer to Release All Israeli Prisoners, These Are Their Conditions
Gaza (Quds News Network)- A senior Hamas official said the resistance movement is ready to release all Israeli prisoners held in Gaza if Israel agrees to a serious prisoner swap, a ceasefire, and a full military withdrawal from the besieged Palestinian strip. Tahir Al-Nunu, media adviser to Hamas political bureau chief Kalil Al-Hayya, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the movement showed “great flexibility” during the latest negotiations in Cairo. “We are ready to release all Israeli prisoners in exchange for a serious deal, an end to the war, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and entry of humanitarian aid,” Al-Nunu said. He stated that Israel is stalling the agreement. “The problem is not the number of prisoners,” he said. “The problem is that the occupation evades its commitments, delays the ceasefire deal, and continues its war.” Al-Nunu stressed that Hamas demanded firm guarantees to ensure Israel abides by any future deal. “We emphasized to the mediators the need for enforceable guarantees,” he added. Al-Nunu also made clear that Hamas refuses to disarm. “The resistance weapons are a red line,” he said. “Their existence is tied to the presence of the occupation.” The first phase of the now-defunct ceasefire deal began on January 19. It included several prisoner exchanges. But after 58 days, Israel resumed its genocide, walking away from the deal. Since October 7, 2023, Israel—with full U.S. support—has waged a relentless assault on Gaza, killing and injuring over 167,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. More than 11,000 remain missing under the rubble. Israel also continues to impose a deadly blockade, blocking food, water, fuel, and medical aid from entering Gaza. The siege has triggered what rights groups call an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.”
