Hamas delegation departs Cairo, calls for ceasefire and full withdrawal
Cairo (Quds News Network)- Hamas has announced that its negotiating delegation left the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday after holding meetings with Egyptian and Qatari mediators to review the results of the latest round of negotiations.
During the discussions, the Hamas delegation, representing Palestinian factions, emphasized the need for Israel to comply with the agreements reached on July 2, which are based on a proposal from US President Joe Biden and the United Nations Security Council resolution.
The Hamas delegation stressed that any agreement must include a permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the freedom for displaced residents to return to their homes, comprehensive relief efforts, reconstruction, and a serious prisoner exchange deal.
Hamas reaffirmed its readiness to implement the agreements, aiming to serve the best interests of the Palestinian people and end the ongoing aggression against them.
Earlier, Hamas official Mahmoud Al-Mardawi stated that the Hamas delegation’s visit to Cairo was intended to hear directly from the mediators, rather than to resume negotiations. Speaking to Quds News Network, Al-Mardawi reaffirmed Hamas’s commitment to the terms outlined in the July 2, 2024, agreement.
Al-Mardawi called on the mediators to pressure Israel to adhere to the agreements and begin implementing them based on the mechanisms discussed in Cairo. He stressed that Hamas sees no benefit in renegotiating matters that have already been agreed upon.
