Hamas condemns new Israeli conditions, stating that Netanyahu is sabotaging ceasefire efforts

Gaza (Quds News Network)- Hamas has issued a statement stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deliberately obstructing peace negotiations and prolonging the genocide in Gaza by imposing new conditions that align with his aggressive stance. The resistance movement stated that the latest proposals, influenced by Netanyahu’s demands, threaten to derail potential ceasefire agreements and a crucial prisoner exchange deal.

Hamas emphasized its commitment to engaging responsibly with mediators from Qatar and Egypt, as well as responding positively to international efforts aimed at ending the genocide in Gaza. The movement highlighted its agreement with the proposals presented by mediators on July 2, 2024, which were based on earlier discussions and the United Nations Security Council resolution endorsed by US President Joe Biden.

“Following the issuance of the tripartite statement, the movement requested that the mediators present a plan to implement what they had proposed to the movement and which it had agreed upon, to avoid the negotiations from going in circles due to Netanyahu’s stalling and his addition of more conditions and obstacles to reaching an agreement, serving his strategy to buy time and prolong the aggression”, it added.

“After hearing from the mediators about what transpired during the latest round of talks in Doha, it became clear to us once again that Netanyahu continues to place obstacles in the way of reaching an agreement, adding new conditions and demands with the aim of sabotaging the mediators’ efforts and prolonging the war.”

Hamas criticized Netanyahu’s latest actions, criticizing his rejection of a permanent ceasefire, refusing to withdraw Israeli forces from Gaza, and insisting on continued control over strategic points like the Nitsarim Junction, the Rafah Crossing, and the Philadelphi Corridor. Additionally, Netanyahu’s new demands in the prisoner exchange negotiations and his reversal on previous commitments have been seen by Hamas as deliberate attempts to prolong the conflict.

“We hold Netanyahu fully responsible for the failure of the mediators’ efforts and the resulting continuation of the conflict,” Hamas declared, stressing that the Israeli leader’s actions endanger the lives of both Palestinians and the Israeli prisoners.

The statement reaffirmed Hamas’ adherence to the agreements reached on July 2, urging mediators to fulfill their responsibilities by holding Israel accountable and ensuring the implementation of the agreed-upon terms.
