Hamas calls for day of ‘roaring anger’ to honor Ismail Haniyeh

Gaza (Quds News Network)- The Palestinian group Hamas has called on people to honor its political leader Ismail Haniyeh who was assassinated on Wednesday in Tehran.

In a statement, the group asked that people pray for Haniyeh “after Friday prayers in all mosques, in loyalty to him, his message, and the blood of the martyrs”.

The Hamas statement also called on people “to launch marches of roaring anger from every mosque, denouncing the cowardly crime of assassination, and condemning the continuation of war, genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip, in defence of our land, our sanctity, and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque”.

Hamas confirmed on Wednesday the assassination of Haniyeh, the head of its political bureau, in a “treacherous Zionist raid on his residence.”

Haniyeh had traveled to Tehran to attend Tuesday’s inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. This visit marked Haniyeh’s final public appearance.

Iranian media reported that Haniyeh was killed by an “airborne guided projectile” that hit the residence where he was staying in the north of the capital Tehran at about 2am local time (22:30 GMT on Tuesday) at a special residence for military veterans.

Hamas and Iran have accused Israel of being responsible for the attack on Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran, although Israel has not claimed responsibility, yet.

Two sources with knowledge of the issue confirmed to Axios on Thursday that the Israeli Mossad assassinated Haniyeh by detonating an explosive device planted in advance in his bedroom at the Iranian government official residence.

The New York Times first reported that an explosive device covertly smuggled into the Tehran guesthouse where Haniyeh was staying, according to seven Middle Eastern officials, including two Iranians, and an American official.

The bomb had been hidden approximately two months ago in the guesthouse, according to five of the Middle Eastern officials. The guesthouse is run and protected by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and is part of a large compound, known as Neshat, in an upscale neighborhood of northern Tehran.
