Hamas Approves Ceasefire and Prisoner Swap, Israel Must Respond
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Hamas has agreed to an Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, sources told Quds Network. The movement confirmed its approval in a brief statement Monday evening.

The proposal includes several key measures. Israeli forces would withdraw 800 meters from residential areas. Daily aid deliveries would increase to 600 trucks carrying relief and shelter supplies.

The plan also calls for the release of 1,700 Palestinian abductees, including 1,500 from Gaza. Negotiations aim to end the war during a 60-day truce, creating a window for a permanent ceasefire.

Sources said Hamas has informed mediators of its approval. The movement now awaits an official Israeli response. If accepted, the deal could mark a turning point toward ending the genocide.

Reports indicate that US envoy Steve Witkoff would visit the region to finalize agreement details if Israel agrees. Israeli Channel 12 confirmed Monday that Israel officially received Hamas’ response to the Egyptian proposal.

Earlier, Israel outlined plans to occupy Gaza City. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the goal is not full occupation but establishing a so-called “civil administration” independent of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. Critics say this move aims to impose a political reality serving Israel’s agenda after nine months of continuous attacks.

Since March 2, Israel has closed all crossings into Gaza. Humanitarian aid has largely been blocked, despite hundreds of trucks waiting at the border. Limited aid enters the strip, failing to meet minimum needs, creating a man-made famine.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with direct US support, has carried out widespread attacks on Gaza. Killings, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement continue, while international calls and International Court of Justice orders to halt Israel's violence go unheeded.

Israel's genocide has killed over 61,944 Palestinians and injured 155,886, mostly women and children. Over 9,000 remain missing. Hundreds of thousands are displaced. A severe famine has already claimed 258 lives, including 110 children, marking an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
