Hamas announces Yahya Sinwar as movement leader, succeeding Ismail Haniyeh

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has officially announced the selection of Yahya Sinwar as the new head of its political bureau. Sinwar succeeds the late Ismail Haniyeh, who served as the leader until his recent martyrdom.

Yahya Sinwar, a prominent leader within Hamas, is deemed the architect of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7, 2023, which inflicted significant human and military losses and shook the image of its intelligence and security agencies before the world.

Israel has announced that Sinwar’s elimination is one of the objectives of its offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Sinwar is considered one of Hamas’s leaders most knowledgeable about the Israeli mindset, and the Israelis have accused him of having the ability to manipulate them.

He is also regarded as one of ‘the hawks’ within the movement, which could influence the course of negotiations on a prisoner exchange deal. This comes after Hamas, under Haniyeh, had shown significant flexibility.
