Growing discord in Israeli government as calls for Netanyahu’s resignation intensify

Tel Aviv (Quds News Network) – After more than 100 days of Israeli war on Gaza, tensions within the Israeli government and the Israeli War Cabinet have been building up. Calls for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down have grown louder as criticism mounts over the handling of the situation.
Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Occupation Forces and a minister in the Israeli War Cabinet, stated to Yedioth Ahronoth that the Israeli government’s behavior before and after October 7, 2023, has been marked by significant failure.
He asserted that both Netanyahu and those who held military and political positions on October 7 and a decade prior bear clear responsibility, accusing the Israeli leadership of not conveying the truth to the public.
Eisenkot, as reported by The New York Times, emphasized that Israel has not defeated the Hamas movement and that the war’s objectives have not been achieved. He suggested that reaching an agreement with Hamas is the only way to secure the release of the Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
The former Israeli Chief of Staff insisted that every effort should have been made to maintain the temporary ceasefire agreed upon in November of the previous year. Eisenkot warned that his presence in the emergency government would prevent a full-scale war with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which he deemed a significant strategic mistake.
In an earlier statement, Eisenkot urged the government to stop deceiving itself, emphasizing the necessity of striking a deal to release those held by Palestinian resistance factions rather than persisting in the war on Gaza.
Avigdor Lieberman, the leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel Our Home) party, asserted that the current Israeli government is no longer capable of leading the occupying state. Lieberman stressed the urgency of forming a new government.
Simultaneously, Haaretz reported a source within the Security Cabinet stating that there is no future for the war on Gaza. The source added that Netanyahu is clearly stalling to buy time and evading responsibility.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid, speaking to Israeli radio, accused Netanyahu of prioritizing personal political interests over the well-being of the Israeli population. Lapid emphasized the need for a swift change in leadership.
