Greek Dockworkers Block Shipment of Ammunition to Israel Amid Gaza Genocide

Athens (Quds News Network)- Dozens of members of a Greek dockworkers’ union have successfully blocked the loading of a container carrying 21 tons of ammunition destined for the occupation state of Israel. This action, taken on Friday, follows a previous announcement by the union calling for protests against shipments of weapons and ammunition that could be utilized in the genocide.

The container arrived at Greece’s Piraeus port from North Macedonia on Thursday and was scheduled to be loaded onto a ship flagged by the Marshall Islands for transport to Israel. However, the union members halted the operation, emphasizing their refusal to allow the port to serve as a conduit for genocide.

The union’s Facebook account reinforced their stance, stating, “We fight for peace… no to Greece’s participation in the war!” Protesters were seen carrying flares and spray-painting slogans on the truck, with messages including “Murderers, get out of the port.”

The incident has sparked a response from the Greek coast guard, which has confirmed that the truck and container are currently under the supervision of port authorities while an investigation is underway. An arrest warrant has also been issued for the union leader involved in the protest. The container was reported to have a valid transit permit.

This protest is not an isolated incident. The dockworkers’ union previously blocked the approach of the cargo ship MSC Altair in June, which was carrying military materials headed for Israel. Greece has publicly supported Israel’s genocide in Gaza but has simultaneously called for an immediate ceasefire to address the “unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe” unfolding in Gaza.
