Gilboa prison break triggers wave of joy on social media

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- On the dawn of Monday, six political prisoners, belonging to Fatah and the Islamic Jihad movement, succeeded in getting out from Gilboa high-security prison in the North of Palestine. Gilboa was once declared the most guarded prison in the occupation state. It was a fortress from which no one could escape.

Gilboa’s cells weigh 66 tonnes – almost three times as much as a standard cell – and are made of reinforced concrete. In each cell, there are eight beds. Prisoners have the bare minimum in terms of facilities: a shower, a toilet, a fan, a hot plate and a kettle, some of which can be confiscated by the Israeli guards as a form of collective punishment.

The prison break was executed through a tunnel that was being dug for years using a spoon. The tunnel started in the toilet of the prisoners’ cell and extended reaching a land outside the Israeli prison.

The news went viral on social media, triggering a wave of joy that Palestinians have been waiting for.

Users on Twitter posted on the hashtag #PrisonBreak, linking the Gilboa prison break to the well-known Holywood movies “Prison Break” and “Shawshank Redumption.

Others celebrated the event remembering Abdullah Al Barghouthi, a Qassam leader, who once said it’s very easy to get out from an Israeli jail.
