German Magazine Bild Launches Racist Campaign, Framing Palestine Flag as a Crime
Berlin (Quds News Network)- German magazine Bild is under fire for an article “accusing” Aydan Özoguz, Vice President of the Bundestag, of posing with “Palestinian flag colors.” The claim sparked controversy, but the image in question shows Özoguz standing in front of Germany’s flag alongside Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. The photo was cropped to fit as a profile picture on Özoguz’s LinkedIn profile.
Bild alleged that Özoguz’s LinkedIn profile picture displayed “the colors of the Palestinian flag,” concluding that the German VP of the Bundestag is anti-Semitic. The article referenced past accusations by Zionists in Germany against Özoguz, including posts showing support for Palestinians’ basic human rights. The outlet criticized her party, SPD, for continuing to support her.
In response, Özoguz clarified on LinkedIn: “In November 2023, I had the honor of welcoming Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel to the Bundestag. A cropped version of this image was my profile picture. The combination of the walls in the protocol hall and the German flag led journalists to accuse me of anti-Semitism today. You couldn’t make this up.”
This latest incident adds to ongoing debates in Germany about media ethics and anti-Palestinian sentiment with the zionist lobby controlling the narrative in the country.
Since Israel launched its ongoing genocide in Gaza, the German government has not only provided wide-ranging political and diplomatic support for Israel, but has also fast-tracked arms exports to facilitate the Israeli slaughter of Palestinian civilians.
Germany also marginalized Palestinians within German society and brutally suppressed pro-Palestinian activism, including those of Jewish activists.
