Gaza Unemployment Soars Above 50% Amid Israeli Assault: Media Office

Gaza (Quds News Network)- The Gaza Strip is facing severe economic and humanitarian conditions due to Israel’s nearly two-month-long blockade, according to the enclave’s Government Media Office on the occasion of Labour Day.
“The region’s unemployment rate has surpassed 50 percent, ranking among the highest globally,” it said.
“With the destruction of industrial facilities, factories, and public service facilities by the occupation during wars, Palestinian workers in the Gaza Strip are completely unable to secure a steady source of income, facing a humanitarian crisis that is worsening by the day.”
Since the beginning of the Israeli assault on Gaza, workers have been among the hardest hit, said the Office, adding “hundreds of factories and vital facilities have been directly targeted, resulting in the loss of thousands of jobs. The widespread destruction of critical infrastructure—including power plants and healthcare services—has further made it nearly impossible for many to work in safe or sustainable conditions.”
The Office said the more alarming is Israel’s “continued targeting of civilians”—particularly workers—through airstrikes and attacks on areas where they gather, resulting in heavy human and material losses. “Reports show that dozens of workers have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, while many others have suffered severe injuries that now prevent them from returning to their jobs.”
