Gaza: Palestinian Journalist Killed, Another Injured by Israeli Special Forces During Doctor’s Abduction
Gaza (Quds News Network)- A Palestinian journalist was killed and another injured by an Israeli special forces unit during the abduction of Dr. Marwan al-Hams, head of the Field Hospitals in Gaza, as he was visiting the Red Cross Hospital in southern Gaza.
Local sources confirmed that journalist Tamer Al-Zaneen was killed by direct gunfire from the Israeli special forces unit that abducted Dr. Marwan Al-Hams. Journalist Ibrahim Abu Sh'aiba was also injured.
The Palestinian Health Ministry strongly slammed the abduction of Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, Director of Abu Youssef Al-Najjar Hospital, spokesperson for the Ministry, and coordinator of the field hospitals, by an armed special forces unit on Monday afternoon.
“This unprecedented act represents a serious escalation and a direct attack on the voice of the sick, the hungry, and the suffering in the Gaza Strip,” it added.
Local sources said the Israeli special forces unit opened fire on civilians at a cafeteria near the hospital, killing two, including the journalist, and abducting al-Hams.
Dr. Al-Hams was taken to an Israeli interrogation center in Rafah. His accompanying ambulance driver was also injured during the abduction, sources added.
Gaza’s Government Media Office said at least 229 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks since the start of the assault in October 2023.
Two Palestinians, including a 14-year-old boy, were shot and killed by Israeli settlers on Tuesday in the village of Al-Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank. A total of three Palestinians have been killed so far today by Israeli settlers across the occupied territories, including two children, amid a spike in settler violence against Palestinians.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot has urged the EU to impose sanctions on Israel ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, joining seven EU countries, including France and Sweden, in the call. He also slammed the Israeli assault on Lebanon as “totally unacceptable.”
France and Sweden have co-signed a paper urging the European Union to ban imports from illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, and to consider tariffs and tighter import restrictions on such goods.
