Gaza Newborns at Risk of Death Within 48 Hours Due to Israeli Blockade, Doctor Warns

Gaza (Quds News Network)- Premature and newborn babies in Gaza could die within 48 hours due to a critical shortage of baby formula and therapeutic milk amid Israel’s months-long blockade on humanitarian aid.
Hospitals in southern Gaza are on the brink of collapse as severe shortages of infant formula and medical supplies threaten the lives of thousands of newborns, warned Dr. Ahmad Al-Farra, Director of Pediatrics at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis.
He described the situation as a “catastrophe” and issued an urgent appeal to the international community, including specialized agencies and human rights organizations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization, to take immediate action and pressure Israel to allow the entry of essential infant formula and medical aid into Gaza.
Dr. Al-Farra said he has issued “the last warning,” describing the “unprecedented situation” as “critical and life-threatening for infants.”
He warned that, within days, premature and newborn babies could begin dying due to a complete lack of baby formula and therapeutic milk, directly caused by the ongoing blockade.
Dr. Al-Farra emphasized that hospitals are stretched to their breaking point, with neonatal intensive care units critically lacking vaccines and essential medications.
“Every hour counts,” he said. “Without immediate and unrestricted access to life-saving supplies, we are facing a countdown to preventable deaths.”
