Gaza Left With 70 Million Tons of Rubble and 20,000 Unexploded Ordnances After Two Years of Israeli Genocide

Gaza (QNN)- Around 70 million tons of rubble and 20,000 unexploded bombs now cover the Gaza Strip after two years of Israeli genocide, creating one of the worst humanitarian and structural disasters in recent history.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office on Thursday, as of mid-October 2025, between 65 and 70 million tons of rubble and debris now cover Gaza, the result of “deliberate and widespread destruction of homes, public infrastructure, and vital facilities.”
“This has rendered the territory an environmental and structural disaster zone, severely obstructing humanitarian aid, rescue missions, and relief efforts,” the Office added.
Efforts to clear the rubble are facing serious challenges, most notably due to the lack of heavy machinery and equipment, as Israel continues to block their entry by closing all border crossings and denying access to essential tools and materials, including those needed to recover bodies trapped beneath the debris.
The Office has called on the international community to “pressure the Israeli occupation to open the crossings immediately and enable the urgent clearance of rubble and restoration of critical infrastructure.”
In addition, about 20,000 unexploded ordnances, including bombs and missiles dropped by Israeli forces, remain scattered across Gaza., posing an imminent threat to civilians and first responders and require specialized engineering teams for safe disposal before any reconstruction or clearance work can proceed.
The UN has also estimated that the damage amounts to $70bn.
The level of destruction on the strip is “now in the region of 84%. In certain parts of Gaza, like in Gaza City, it’s even up to 92%”, said Jaco Cilliers, UN Development Programme special representative for the Palestinians.
Assessments by BBC Verify based on recent satellite data suggest there could be over 60 million tonnes of debris waiting to be cleared in Gaza.
