Gaza Health Director: Abu Safiya Brutally Beaten and Used as Human Shield by Israeli Forces

Gaza (Quds News Network)- Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director-General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, described the evacuation of Kamal Adwan Hospital by Israeli forces as “extremely harsh.” He stated that the medical staff and patients faced unbearable conditions.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Dr. Al-Bursh said that Israeli forces deceived the medical team and patients. They were promised transfer to the Indonesian Hospital but were taken to an unknown location instead.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, was among those detained. Israeli forces reportedly subjected him to severe beatings with batons and sticks, forcing him to strip and wear prison clothes. According to Dr. Al-Bursh, Abu Safiya is now being used as a human shield by Israeli troops.

Israeli forces took Abu Safiya and other medical staff to Al-Fakhoura, west of Jabalia. Witnesses who were later released described the scene as “tragic and devastating.”

Dr. Al-Bursh also reported that Israeli forces detained 33 medical staff members from Kamal Adwan Hospital. The group includes 11 nurses, 4 paramedics, 7 administrative workers, 2 journalists, and 10 maintenance and cleaning staff. Ten others remain missing.

Reports indicate that four injured individuals were burned alive during the assault on the hospital, though exact numbers remain unconfirmed.

The Israeli military stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, set it ablaze, and rendered it completely out of service. Over 350 people inside the hospital were detained, including 180 medical staff, 75 patients and their companions, and others, according to the Government Media Office.
