Full-fledged Israeli offensive in Rafah would be ‘nail in coffin’ of Gaza aid: UN chief

Geneva (Quds News Network) – The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned today that a full-fledged Israeli military offensive in Rafah would serve as a fatal blow to relief efforts in Gaza, where supplies are still “completely insufficient.”

Speaking before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UN chief described the southernmost city of Gaza as “the core of the humanitarian aid operation” in the Palestinian territory, home to more than 1.4 million crammed Palestinians living in tent camps.

“An all-out Israeli offensive on the city would not only be terrifying for more than a million Palestinian civilians sheltering there; it would put the final nail in the coffin of our aid programs,” he said.

His remarks followed Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration on Sunday that his government was considering a ground assault in Rafah as part of its pursuit of a “total victory” over Hamas.
