Former US Officials Launch PAC to Challenge Washington’s Unconditional Support for Israel
Washington (Quds News Network)- Two former US government officials who resigned in protest over Washington’s support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza have established a new political action committee (PAC) and lobbying group aimed at reshaping US policy on Israel and Palestine. Josh Paul, a former State Department official, and Tariq Habash, previously a policy advisor at the Department of Education, launched “A New Policy” to advocate for candidates who prioritize human rights and equality in the US approach to the Middle East.
Paul and Habash argue that American public opinion no longer supports the unconditional supply of US weapons to Israel, a stance they believe elected officials have failed to reflect. “American voters are clear: they do not want to be complicit in this humanitarian catastrophe,” said Habash, emphasizing that a growing majority opposes the transfer of lethal weapons used against Palestinians.
The PAC will support political candidates who align their positions with international human rights laws, ensuring that US arms transfers, particularly to Israel and other Middle Eastern nations, comply with both US and international law.
Shifting Voter Dynamics
The unconditional US support for Israel’s assaults against Gaza and Lebanon has emerged as a pivotal issue ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Many Muslim and Arab voters, who largely supported President Joe Biden in 2020, are reconsidering their support for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, who is facing former President Donald Trump in a close race. Biden’s backing of Israel’s attacks has drawn criticism, particularly among communities opposing the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Harris faces mounting challenges from a shifting voter base that is increasingly vocal about the need for Washington to reconsider its position on US arms transfers to the occupation state. Meanwhile, Trump has continued his staunch support for Israel, warning that the occupation state’s security would be at risk if Harris were elected.
The newly formed PAC, “A New Policy,” aims to drive significant policy changes in Washington’s stance on the Israel and Palestine. The group advocates for a US foreign policy that reflects values of equality, justice, and human rights, while also ensuring that weapons supplied to the Middle East do not contribute to violations of international law.
Paul and Habash believe that this PAC will fill a critical gap between public sentiment and political action. They aim to build a broad-based movement to press for policy changes that align American interests with a just and lasting peace in the region.
Their initiative reflects the growing discontent among American voters, particularly those disillusioned with the current administration’s approach to Israel, and underscores a potential shift in how US foreign policy may evolve in the future.
