Former Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoğlu Proposes Gaza Joining Turkey via Referendum

Ankara (Quds News Network)- Former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has proposed a referendum for Gaza residents to decide on joining Turkey as an autonomous region. He made the suggestion on Wednesday during a parliamentary session of the “New Path” bloc, which includes the Future Party, the Felicity Party, and the Democracy and Progress Party.

“Let the people of Gaza hold a referendum and join the Republic of Turkey as a self-governing region until a Palestinian state is established,” Davutoğlu said.

Davutoğlu urged Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to attend the emergency Arab summit on February 27, which Egypt has called to address the Palestinian crisis and the threat of forced displacement.

He criticized the lack of broader Muslim support for Palestine. “Fifty-seven Muslim countries should stand with these nine nations, but only Malaysia and Senegal have joined,” he noted.

Davutoğlu strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s policies, accusing him of dismantling international institutions. “Trump is determined to destroy all values and institutions built by humanity after World War II,” he said.

He pointed to Trump’s withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council, UNESCO, the World Trade Organization, and the World Health Organization as evidence of this destruction.

Davutoğlu warned that Trump’s actions threaten international stability. “He demands land from Canada, Mexico, and Denmark. There is no international law anymore. No one can be sure of their borders,” he stated.

He also criticized Trump’s 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel, calling them an attack on the World Trade Organization and free trade. “This will lead to economic walls between nations and push the world toward a new colonial system, driven by imperialist ambitions,” he added.
