Former Israeli Official Calls for Secret Executions of Palestinian Prisoners

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- A former Israeli security official has urged the execution of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli jails. Reserve Colonel Uri Halperin, a former intelligence aide to the prime minister, proposed executing prisoners secretly, burning their bodies, and scattering their ashes at sea. He claims this would prevent the release of high-security prisoners in future exchange deals.

Halperin argued that Israel’s avoidance of executing Palestinian hostages has encouraged resistance groups to detain Israeli soldiers and settlers to release Palestinian hostages. He cited past prisoner swaps, such as the 2011 Gilad Shalit deal, where Israel released over 1,000 Palestinian hostages in exchange for one soldier. Halperin warned that such deals have strategically weakened Israel’s deterrence and emboldened resistance groups.

He acknowledged the political and moral risks of implementing the death penalty but insisted it could deter future kidnappings. Halperin suggested conducting executions discreetly to avoid media attention and international backlash. He referenced the 1962 execution of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann as a precedent for such actions.

Halperin’s proposal has reignited debate over Israel’s approach to Palestinians, whom Israelis call “security prisoners”. Critics argue that executing prisoners could turn them into martyrs, fueling further resistance. However, Halperin believes it would deliver “moral justice” to Israelis’ families and reduce the use of prisoners as bargaining tools.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has kidnapped over 14,000 Palestinians, many held without trial. Halperin’s call for a new strategy reflects growing frustration within Israel over the cycle of prisoner exchanges and their long-term security implications.
