“Evidence of Germany’s participation in genocide”: Hamas slams German FM’s remarks on Israel’s right to kill civilians as “self-defense”
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Hamas has condemned German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock for her recent comments on Israel’s right to defend itself, despite the heavy civilian casualties resulting from its genocidal war in Gaza, describing her statements as “outrageous” and providing justification for further acts of genocide.
Addressing parliament on Tuesday, the German Foreign Minister advocated for Israel’s right to attack civilians for “self-defense,” saying “I made it clear at the United Nations that civilian locations can lose their protected status because terrorists exploit that.”
She added, “Self-defense means not only attacking terrorists but destroying them. When Hamas terrorists hide behind people, behind schools… civilian places lose their protected status because terrorists abuse it.”
In a Wednesday statement, Hamas said, “We cnsider this brazen statement a blatant violation and a clear infringement of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and a clear acknowledgment of participation in supporting the occupation in its ongoing aggression.”
Hamas added that such remarks act “as a cover for the Zionist occupation army to commit more acts of genocide against our people, including innocent civilians, children, women, the elderly, and the sick, for over a full year.”
“We express our deep outrage at this statement, which reveals a Zionist mentality devoid of all human values and principles, exposing the reality of the German stance that supports and participates in the crimes of starvation, thirst, and genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip.”
“The German government bears full responsibility for the serious consequences and its political, legal, ethical, and humanitarian implications.”
Hamas also called on the International Court of Justice to consider this minister’s statement as “additional evidence of her government’s participation in the genocide.”
“We demand that it reverse its rejection of the lawsuit filed by Nicaragua against Germany for violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by supplying the Zionist occupation with weapons used in its ongoing aggression against Gaza since last October, and to immediately initiate emergency measures to compel Germany to stop its arms exports to the Zionist entity.”
Germany is responsible for nearly 30 percent of arms sales to Israel, making it the largest source of Israel’s access to weapons after the United States.
