Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor Urges UN to Declare Northern Gaza a Disaster Zone Amid Ongoing Israeli Carnage

Gaza (Quds News Network)- The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has called on the United Nations to declare northern Gaza a disaster zone, demanding immediate interventions to stop the genocide by the Israeli army. The organization confirmed that Israel is committing large-scale systematic killings, deliberate starvation, mass forced displacement, and the total destruction of any remaining elements of life in the region. The monitor warned that the international community’s inaction and failure to stop the atrocities make it complicit in the “most brutal extermination.”
In a statement, the Euro-Med Monitor said its field team documented horrific crimes against civilians in Jabalia refugee camp and northern Gaza. The Israeli offensive reached its peak last night (Friday, October 18), with the bombing of several homes belonging to the “Hawajri,” “Nassar,” and “Abu Al-Eish” families in Tel Al-Zaatar in Jabalia camp, killing 33 Palestinians and injuring more than 70 others.

Massacres in Northern Gaza as Communications Cut Off
The monitor added that many more Palestinians remain missing, believed to be trapped under the rubble, pushing the death toll from the recent assault in northern Gaza to 500, with dozens of bodies still lying in the streets and under debris. Thousands of Palestinians have also been injured as a result of the relentless bombing.
The Israeli forces reportedly targeted densely populated residential areas without justification, aiming to kill any remaining civilians and force survivors to flee. Early this morning, Israeli tanks surrounded the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, targeting anyone in its vicinity and shelling the building. Power was cut off, and bulldozers destroyed part of the hospital’s walls.
The Euro-Med Monitor said it received information that Israeli forces have encircled four shelters around the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza. It also reported that the Israeli army carried out field executions near the Indonesian Hospital. Meanwhile, earlier today, Israeli airstrikes hit the courtyard of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia during a funeral procession for victims of last night’s attacks, killing two Palestinians and injuring others. The airstrikes also claimed the life of Dr. Bilal Abdel Aal, a doctor at Kamal Adwan Hospital, along with several members of his family, after targeting their home in the Al-Alami neighborhood in Jabalia camp.
Systematic Destruction of Gaza’s Health System
The monitor warned that the Israeli military is systematically targeting the remaining health infrastructure in Gaza, which is already operating at minimal capacity. In recent days, Israeli forces destroyed the last remaining water wells, bombed communication hubs, and cut off internet access in the area, plunging northern Gaza into complete isolation.
Over 400,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza are now facing the threat of death, either from continuous airstrikes or starvation, as Israel has blocked any humanitarian aid from entering the region since the beginning of October. The Israeli military has been conducting an ongoing assault in northern Gaza since October 5, resulting in mass casualties and widespread destruction.
Euro-Med Monitor said its field team has documented hundreds of Israeli airstrikes that have decimated homes, shelters, and streets in northern Gaza over the past 15 days. Many of the injured and deceased remain in the streets or under rubble, with no way to transport them to hospitals due to Israeli forces imposing a “fire ban” on ambulance movements and civil defense teams throughout Jabalia and its refugee camp.
The Euro-Med Monitor called for the immediate designation of northern Gaza as a disaster zone, which would compel international interventions to stop Israel’s offensive against civilians and provide life-saving aid. The organization urged the UN and individual states to intervene urgently to save hundreds of thousands of residents in northern Gaza, halt the ongoing genocide, impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, and hold it accountable for its crimes.
The monitor also emphasized the need for concrete measures to protect Palestinian civilians and prevent further atrocities in the region.
