EU Under Fire for Quietly Enabling Israel’s Starvation War in Gaza

Gaza (Quds News Network)- The European Union is facing growing backlash for its silent partnership in Israel’s starvation campaign against more than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza.

Over a week ago, the EU announced an alleged deal with Israel to ease humanitarian suffering. The agreement promised more aid trucks, new crossing points, and restored supply routes from Egypt and Jordan. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said at the time that Israel committed to increasing daily aid and ensuring safe access for relief workers.

But so far, Israel has failed to honor any part of the alleged deal.

No EU aid has entered Gaza through Israeli crossings since the agreement was signed. Meanwhile, hunger is worsening, and medical supplies are vanishing under a total blockade imposed since March 2.

EU spokesperson in Palestine, Shadi Othman, confirmed this week that Israel has not implemented the terms of the deal. Talks are ongoing, but no breakthrough has been achieved.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty also said that the flow of aid into Gaza has not improved, despite the alleged deal between Israel and Europe.

Rights organizations and Palestinian officials say this is not just about logistics, it’s about complicity.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor noted that the EU is an active accomplice in Israel’s genocide campaign. In a statement, the group said Europe’s “inaction and evasive diplomacy” gives Israel a green light to continue war crimes against civilians.

“Europe is not just watching; it is helping engineer mass starvation,” the statement said. It described the EU’s current approach as a moral and political failure, one that enables Israel’s illegal occupation and the destruction of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.

The monitor warned that by focusing only on aid delivery while ignoring the crimes behind the hunger, the EU plays a role similar to that of infamous NGOs accused of facilitating forced famine under a humanitarian cover.

The Gaza Government Media Office issued a scathing statement Friday. It stated that the EU is directly complicit in the genocide that has ravaged Gaza since October 7.

The statement came after this week’s meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. Former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell sharply criticized the outcome, saying Europe had chosen not to punish Israel and was allowing the genocide to continue.

The Gaza office said it was shocked by the EU’s official stance and accused the bloc of “ethical and political paralysis” in the face of Israel’s crimes.

It called Borrell’s remarks “a damning confession” from inside the European system, exposing the West’s disgraceful double standards.

The office condemned the EU’s refusal to activate any accountability mechanisms against Israel, despite clear human rights violations under the EU-Israel partnership agreement.

While Gaza’s population is starved, bombed, and displaced, the EU continues to watch, the statement said, calling it “a betrayal of all human values Europe claims to uphold.”

After the foreign ministers’ meeting, Kaja Kallas said the EU would “closely monitor” whether Israel implements the humanitarian steps it promised. She noted that possible measures could be considered in the future but insisted that the EU’s goal is not to punish Israel.

In May, the EU began reviewing its partnership agreement with Israel over human rights concerns. But experts say a full suspension of the agreement is unlikely, since it requires unanimous approval from all member states.

While Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia support suspending the deal, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic oppose it.

Since October 7, Israel’s genocide in Gaza, backed by the United States, has killed or injured over 198,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Thousands remain missing. Hunger is claiming more lives by the day.

Entire neighborhoods lie in ruins, and families live without clean water, food, or medicine. Rights groups warn that this slow-motion genocide is not accidental, it is strategic.

While the EU sends statements, Gaza’s people are being starved and buried.
