EU expresses concern about recent Israeli settler violence against Palestinians
Occupied Palestine (QNN) – The European Union has expressed concern about the recent violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinian residents and human rights defenders in the village of al-Tuwani and the South Hebron Hills.
In a statement on Thursday, the EU pointed out that more than a dozen settlers harassed and threatened two Israeli human rights defenders who were accompanying a Palestinian shepherd and his flock of sheep on private Palestinian land.
“This is entirely unacceptable,” the EU said commenting on the incident that took place on April 4.
“Everyone has the right, individually and in association with others, to participate in peaceful activities against human rights violations and fundamental freedoms,” the EU added.
It stressed that under international humanitarian law, Israeli authorities must take all necessary measures to protect Palestinians and their property against settler violence.
Israeli settlers attack Palestinians on a daily basis across the occupied territories under the so-called “Price Tag” banner. Such attacks always go unpunished by the Israeli occupation authorities.
These attacks often include assaults on Palestinians, slashing tyres, painting anti-Arab slogans, in addition to the cutting down of trees belonging to Palestinian farmers.
