EU condemns Israel’s demolition of Palestinian tents in Hamsa Al-Foqo

The European Union has condemned Israel’s demolition of tents and structures belonging to Palestinian families in Hamsa al-Foqa village, in the northern Jordan Valley, that left 80 people, including 48 children, homeless.

Shadi Othman, spokesman for the EU office to the Palestinians, confirmed that a group of European diplomats are visiting today the village to inspect it after the Israeli demolishing of its tents.

Othman noted that the visit is a political message to the Israeli occupation, saying that there must be a response to maintain the Palestinian existance and prevent the forcible displacement of the village residents.

“What’s happening in the village is a forcible displacement and eviction of its residents,” Othman said.

He also pointed out that the Israeli occupation confiscated materials that were humanitarian assistance funded by the EU to the village residents.

The spokesman said the EU is ready to support those impacted while calling on ‘Israel’ to halt all such demolitions which are a grave breach of international humanitarian law.

Last November, Israeli occupation demolished eighteen tents that housed 11 families in the village, displacing a total of 74 people, more than half of which were minors, according to B’Tselem.

Almost 800 Palestinians, including 404 minors, lost their homes in 2020.

Throughout 2019, 677 lost their homes, up from 387 in 2018 and 521 in 2017.
