Erdogan: Islamic world should be united against Israel’s attacks in Palestine

Ankara (QNN)- The Islamic world should be united against Israel’s aggressions in Palestine, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly told his Iranian counterpart on Friday.

Erdogan and Ebrahim Raisi spoke over the phone and discussed Türkiye-Iran ties and regional issues, including Israeli attacks on Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said in a statement.

Emphasizing that common sense should prevail to prevent a new spiral of violence, Erdogan said that it would be beneficial to take initiatives to guide all parties to common sense.

Calling on Raisi to jointly continue efforts in international platforms, especially in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the UN, to preserve the status of holy places, Erdogan said it is important to demonstrate unity, particularly in the face of recent acts such as the burning of the holy Quran in European cities.

Erdogan’s Friday remarks come amid high tension in the area as Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque has been under aggressive Israeli attacks for three consecutive nights with Israeli forces brutally breaking into the holy site, forcibly expelling Palestinian worshipers observing the holy month of Ramadan and gathering for night prayers from the holy site and assaulting them.

Moreover, on Thursday night, Israeli occupation warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on several targets across the besieged Gaza Strip, causing material damage and fire to erupt. The Israeli military also struck targets in Lebanon, hours after it launched airstrikes on Gaza in response to a spate of rockets launched from Southern Lebanon on Thursday afternoon into northern ‘Israel’ following Israel’s brutal raids in Al-Aqsa.

On Wednesday, Erdogan slammed Israel’s brutal assault on Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling such acts a “red line” for Turkey.

“I condemn the despicable acts committed against the first qibla of Muslims on behalf of my country and my people, and I call for these attacks to stop as soon as possible,” he said.
