Musk questioned the claim itself, saying, "I'm not sure we should be sending $50 million worth of condoms to anywhere." He added, "If it went to Mozambique instead of Gaza… okay, that's not as bad. But why are we doing that?" His remarks followed earlier claims by US President Donald Trump, who said his administration had uncovered and stopped the alleged shipment. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt first made the claim in her initial press briefing. She stated that Musk’s office, along with the Office of Management and Budget, had discovered that $50 million had already been sent to Gaza for condoms and that Hamas used them as bombs. However, she provided no evidence but Israeli media spread the claim. A review of USAID data from 2007 to 2023 contradicts this claim. No records show any condom shipments to Gaza. The only shipment to the Middle East during that period was a $45,680 supply sent to Jordan in 2023. Meanwhile, US Department of Health and Human Services data shows that the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in Mozambique received over $83 million since 2021 for reproductive health projects. Some of this funding was allocated to the Gaza Province of Mozambique, not the Gaza Strip in Palestine.Elon Musk on spreading misinformation about condoms for Hamas: “Some of the things that I say will be incorrect.” pic.twitter.com/2RNCGCLL5Y
