Eleven dead in attack on Israeli-occupied Golan

Occupied Golan Heights (Quds News Network)- A rocket shell struck a football field in Majdal Shams, in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, killing 11 Syrian children and injuring several others. It remains unclear why Israeli air defenses failed to intercept the projectile. At this stage, it is also uncertain whether the incident involved a drone, a rocket, or a wayward intercept missile.

The Israeli military quickly blamed Hezbollah and threatened military escalation and war against Lebanon. Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz stated that Tel Aviv is “approaching a full-scale war in the north against Hezbollah.” However, Hezbollah denied involvement in the attack, issuing a statement: “The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon categorically denies the allegations reported by some enemy media outlets and various platforms about targeting Majdal Shams. The resistance has no connection to the incident and denies all false claims in this regard.”

Lebanese media suggested that the incident in Majdal Shams was either an Israeli mistake or a deliberate act to exploit the situation politically and militarily, coinciding with Netanyahu’s presence in Washington. They emphasized that Hezbollah’s fighters are skilled and have consistently avoided targeting civilians, especially considering that the residents of Majdal Shams are Syrians resistant to “Judaization.”

Additionally, Axios reported an American official stating that Hezbollah officials informed the United Nations that the incident in Majdal Shams was caused by an Israeli anti-missile intercept rocket falling on a football field.

It is worth noting that Hezbollah’s pattern of attacks over the past 10 months has primarily focused on military targets, avoiding escalation against Israel. Meanwhile, the Israeli political scene has witnessed heightened rhetoric and calls for war against Lebanon.
