Egypt warns Israel against occupation of Philadelphi Corridor, cites serious threat to bilateral relations
Cairo (Quds News Network) – Egypt has warned Israel against any attempt to occupy the Philadelphi Corridor, the land that separates Gaza from Egypt, stating that such a move would pose a “serious threat” to the longstanding ties between the two neighboring nations.
Diaa Rashwan, the head of Egypt’s State Information Service, emphasized that any Israeli action in this direction would be considered a violation of the security agreements and protocols between Egypt and Israel.
The Philadelphi Corridor, a 14-kilometer-long strip of land on the Egypt-Palestine border, has been a point of concern as Israeli occupation’s leaders have openly discussed the possibility of seizing control over the area.
Extremist ministers within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government have even advocated for the ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians in Gaza.
Rashwan, in his statement, reassured that Palestine’s western border is secure and dismissed Israeli claims that weapons were being smuggled from Egypt into Gaza as false.
He contended that such allegations were merely attempts by Israel to rationalize its continued imposition of collective punishment on the besieged Palestinian population in Gaza.
“It must be strictly emphasized that any Israeli move in this direction will lead to a serious threat to Egyptian-Israeli relations.”
