Donald Trump suggests he’ll build his own social media site
Former President of the United States Donald Trump has claimed that loads of people are leaving Twitter because he’s no longer on it while suggesting he’ll build his own social media site.
In his first interviews since the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Trump spoke with Newsmax, his new favourite media outlet, and said, “I’ll tell you it’s not the same when you look at what’s going on with Twitter, I understand it’s become very boring, and millions of people are leaving.
He added, “They are leaving it because it’s not the same. And I can understand that.”
When asked whether he would want to move to Parler, a ‘free-speech’ social media app, Trump said he was keen but admitted ‘mechanically they can’t handle’ the amount of traffic that would happen if he joined.
He added, “There is also the other option of building your own site because we have more people than anybody. You can literally build your own site.”
However, this idea has been floated before, as when Trump got kicked off all the major social media apps, his son, Don Jr, called on Elon Musk to see if he could use his ingenious brain to create a new one just for the former President.
Posting a video on Instagram, he said: “This guy put manned people into space. He did so privately. He took on big government and did it better, cheaper, faster than they ever could. This is the guy to do it.”
He says that he thinks the SpaceX boss could be the right person to do it after he took on ‘West Coast high tech’ for becoming the ‘de facto arbiter of free speech’.
Don Jr. continued: “Someone like him has the brilliance to come up with something that blows Twitter away.
“I am not looking for a conservative echo chamber, I want a platform to argue my ideas vs someone else’s and not just people in a place telling me what I want to hear.
“Elon why don’t you do that. Get out there and come up with a concept. I think you are literally the guy to save free speech in America.”
Twitter has removed Donald Trump’s account from its social media platform, citing the risk of the president using the site to incite further violence, after the Capitol incident, when his supporters breached the US Capitol while Congress was meeting to certify the Electoral College’s votes for president and vice president.
Asking if he plans to run for president again in 2024, he answered, “As far as ’24, too early to say.”
“I won’t say yet, but I have tremendous support, and I’m looking at poll numbers that are through the roof.”
