Displaced families in Gaza face new crisis as shelters flooded with rainwater
Gaza City (Quds News Network) – As the northern and southern regions of the Gaza Strip grapple with heavy rainfall, dozens of shelters housing thousands of displaced families are now submerged in rainwater mixed with sewage, creating a dire situation for those already enduring displacement as a result of the ongoing Israeli genocide campaign.
In the northern Gaza Strip, including Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia, numerous shelters accommodating displaced individuals have been inundated over the past hours. The heavy rains have also affected Gaza City, with rainwater penetrating schools housing displaced families in various neighborhoods, including Rimal, Al-Jamaa University Square, Asqoola, Al-Zaytoun, Shujaiya, Daraj, and Tuffah.
The central Gaza Strip has not been spared from the flooding, as rainwater has inundated shelters in UNRWA and governmental schools. The cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah are also grappling with the consequences of the heavy downpour. In Rafah, many tents housing displaced families are now submerged, while others have been blown away by severe winds.
Facing increasingly challenging conditions, displaced families have urgently appealed to international institutions and the World Health Organization to take immediate action. They seek intervention to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression and provide essential shelters to protect against the rain and biting cold.
The current crisis unfolds against the backdrop of the 100th consecutive day of Israeli aggression in the region. Residents, particularly the displaced, are grappling with the continuous conflict and the additional burden brought on by the ongoing low-pressure system affecting Palestine.
