Denying Biden’s victory, Pompeo to visit Israeli illegal settlement

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Refusing to recognize Trump’s loss in the US election last week, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo left Friday on a trip to an Israeli illegal settlement among other destinations, where their leaders congratulated former Vice President Joe Biden for his victory.

Mike Pompeo would become the first US secretary of state to visit one of the settlements, which are considered illegal by most of the international community.

The PM Mohammed Shtayyeh described the visit as a “dangerous precedent”, adding that it is a way to “legitimize the settlements” and creates “a dangerous precedent that violates international law”, according to WAFA.

Axios news website reported the top diplomat will land in the occupation state on Wednesday and is expected to meet Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials.

The trip aims to highlight US President Donald Trump administration’s policy shifts on Israel, Axios reported.

Last year, Pompeo said the US did not consider Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territory to be illegal, violating the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Pompeo is expected to visit the occupied West Bank winery of ‘Psagot’, which has rolled out a label named after him in tribute to his visit, Israeli media reported.

Psagot illegal settlement was created in 1981 on lands grabbed from Al Bireh and Jerusalem.
