“Crucial Correction to Decades of Injustice”: Hamas Welcomes ICC Arrest Warrants Against Netanyahu and Gallant
Gaza (Quds News Network)- The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has welcomed the issuance of arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The warrants charge them with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In a press statement released on Thursday, Hamas has described the ICC’s move as a historic precedent and a crucial correction to decades of injustice against the Palestinian people. The group criticized the United States for obstructing the ICC’s efforts for months through intimidation of the court and its judges, aiming to shield Israel from accountability for its actions in Gaza.
“This step, which the US administration—complicit in Zionist war crimes—attempted to obstruct for months by intimidating the court and its judges and trying to dissuade it from fulfilling its duty to hold the occupation accountable for its ongoing crimes in Gaza, represents a significant historic precedent”, Hamas stated. “It is a correction of a long-standing course of historical injustice against our people and an end to the alarming disregard for the heinous violations they have endured over 76 years of fascist occupation.”
Hamas urged the ICC to expand its investigations to include all Israeli leaders, ministers, and military officers implicated in crimes against Palestinians. The statement highlighted the severe toll of Israel’s actions, including killings, acts of terror, and the use of starvation as a weapon of war.
“We call on the ICC to pursue all war criminals within the Israeli leadership who have spilled Palestinian blood and inflicted terror and starvation on our people,” the statement read.
The movement also called on governments worldwide to cooperate with the ICC in bringing Netanyahu and Gallant to justice. Additionally, Hamas urged immediate international action to halt the genocidal crimes against unarmed civilians in Gaza.
The ICC’s arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant mark a significant step in addressing war crimes and have drawn both support and criticism on the global stage. Hamas emphasized that such accountability is essential for justice and peace in the region.
