Controversial lawyer Alan Dershowitz considered to lead Israel’s genocide defence at ICJ

Washington D.C. (Quds News Network) – In a surprising move, American lawyer Alan Dershowitz, who defended convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and the impeached former US President Donald Trump, is reportedly being considered to lead Israel’s defence against accusations of genocide filed by South Africa at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Dershowitz, often referred to as Israel’s “attack dog,” is said to be Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s preferred choice despite his contentious history with the ICJ. Back in 2004, he criticized the ICJ, claiming it was “founded” on discrimination, following the advisory opinion on the construction of the illegal “Separation Wall” in occupied Palestinian territory.

The news of Dershowitz being considered for Israel’s defence was revealed by political reporter Barak Ravid, who stated, “Israeli officials say Netanyahu wants Alan Dershowitz to represent Israel at the @CIJ_ICJ hearing next week about South Africa’s accusation that it is conducting genocide in Gaza.”

Dershowitz, when contacted, neither confirmed nor denied the reports, stating, “I can’t comment about it at this time.”

Dershowitz’s legal career includes defending O.J. Simpson in 1994 and representing Epstein and Weinstein. Epstein, charged in 2019 with sex trafficking of minors, faced allegations of trafficking a victim to Dershowitz for sex.

Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer, was found guilty in 2020, with ties to an Israeli spy company, Black Cube.

Considered by some as a fitting advocate for Israel, Dershowitz, a long-time friend and advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu, has defended illegal Israeli settlements, downplayed civilian casualties, and attacked liberal Jewish groups in his numerous books, including “The Case for Israel,” “Defending Israel,” and “War Against the Jews.”
