Concerns expressed over the deteriorating situation of the Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- On his 98th day of hunger strike in protest of his administrative detention without charge or trial by Israeli authorities, the Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras is in critical condition, said the head of the Committee of Detainees and Former Detainees Qadri Abu Baker on Sunday.
His hearing, speech and vision are badly affected, and he begins to feel pain in his heart. There is also a real concern that the vital functions of his body organs will be affected, and therefore his life is at risk.
Al Akhras, a father of six children, was arrested on July 27. Israeli authorities have been detaining Al Akhras at Kaplan hospital since September.
Israeli supreme court has rejected releasing him, trying to force him to end his strike. The Israeli supreme court had also rejected a request to transfer Al Akhras to a Palestinian hospital, which was described by the head of the Prisoners’ Society, Qaddourah Fares, as an “execution order.”
Administrative detention is illegal under international law, however, the occupation state uses it to repress the Palestinian people.
