Child among 13 Palestinians detained in West Bank

Ramallah (QNN) – Israeli occupation forces last night detained at least 13 Palestinians, including a child, from various parts of the occupied West Bank, said the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.

Local sources confirmed that Israeli forces detained two former prisoners from Bitunia town, west of Ramallah, and another Palestinian from Rantis village, northwest of Ramallah.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces conducted a raid that triggered confrontations in al-Jalazoun refugee camp, north of Ramallah, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

During ensuing confrontations, scores of the camp residents suffered from tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers.

In Jerusalem, WAFA correspondent said that large Israeli police force raided Shufat refugee camp, where they detained a Palestinian minor and ransacked four houses.

The confrontations that unfolded were violent as police fired rubber-coated steel bullets besides to tear gas and stun grenades at youngsters who attempted to block their entry. No injuries were reported though.

In Bethlehem district, security sources confirmed that an Israeli military force showed up in Aida refugee camp, where they rounded up two Palestinians after ransacking their families’ houses.

Sources also confirmed a similar military raid in Tuqu town, southeast of Bethlehem, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian besides to the destruction and confiscation of a taxicab belonging to the detainee’s father.

In Hebron district, Muhammad Awad, a media activist, said that Israeli military vehicles raided Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron, where soldiers detained a former prisoner.

A similar military raid was carried out in Dura town, southwest of Hebron, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli troops detained a Palestinian after breaking into and searching his parents’ house in Qalqiliya city.

In Jenin district, Israeli forces rounded up two Palestinians from Umm al-Tut village, southeast of Jenin city.

Similar raids were confirmed in the Jenin-district town of Yaabad and villages of Faqqua, Deir Abu Da’if and Jalaboun. No detentions were reported though.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
