Calls for 1-star app store reviews for Instagram over anti-Palestinian censorship
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Activists on social media called for a 1-star store review campaign against Instagram in protest against the platform's increasing censorship of Palestinian content.
The activists called for the campaign to start on November 29, which marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The campaigners called for pushing down the Instagram app’s ranking on Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play.
Social media platforms, especially Meta's Instagram, have been systematically censoring and removing Palestinian content and attempting to silence pro-Palestine voices. Meta suspended and removed thousands of accounts and posts calling for equal rights for the Palestinian people and stopping the genocide in Gaza.
Social media giants have been also targeting accounts of human rights organizations, which have been documenting Israeli crimes.
The campaign called Meta to immediately stop its anti-Palestinian bias, which dehumanize the Palestinian people.
Sada Social had documented over 11,000 violations against Palestinian content in October 2023, most of which were in Meta platforms. It added that 45% of the violations targeted journalists.
Meta has suspended QNN's Instagram account and prevented the network from requesting a review of the suspension.
In January alone, Israeli forces and settlers carried out 28 raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevented the call to prayer 57 times at the Ibrahimi Mosque, an official report said.
Israel is holding the bodies of around 777 identified Palestinians, including 88 detainees who died in Israeli prisons amid reports of torture and medical negligence, according to a Palestinian organization advocating for their release.
Only five of the 450 Palestinian patients in critical condition will be allowed to leave the Gaza Strip on Monday, after Israel reopened the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt for limited traffic following two years of genocide and nearly 20 months of closure.
