Nearly 500 Amazon and Google workers demand to cancel cloud services deal with ‘Israel’

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Nearly 500 workers at Amazon and Google called on their companies to cancel a deal with the occupation state, which would provide it with cloud services to be used against the Palestinian people.

In a joint letter published by the Guardian, nearly 500 Amazon and Google workers said they cannot support a decision by their employers to supply the occupation state with technology that will be used to harm the Palestinian people.

“As workers who keep these companies running, we are morally obligated to speak out against violations of these core values”, the letter read.

“For this reason, we are compelled to call on the leaders of Amazon and Google to pull out of Project Nimbus and cut all ties with the Israeli military.”

The signators said they prefer to keep their identities unknown as they fear retaliation.

The letter also criticizes agreements between both companies and institutions, which are known for human rights violations, such as the US Department of Defense, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), and state and local police departments.

“Continuing this pattern, our employers signed a contract called Project Nimbus to sell dangerous technology to the Israeli military and government”, the letter added.

According to the letter, the agreement was signed last May, during the latest Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and 1948-occupied territories. At the time, ‘Israel’ killed nearly 50 people, including over 60 children, in Gaza only.

“The technology our companies have contracted to build will make the systematic discrimination and displacement carried out by the Israeli military and government even crueler and deadlier for Palestinians”, the letter noted.

“Project Nimbus is a $1.2bn contract to provide cloud services for the Israeli military and government. This technology allows for further surveillance of and unlawful data collection on Palestinians, and facilitates expansion of Israel’s illegal settlements on Palestinian land.”

“We cannot look the other way, as the products we build are used to deny Palestinians their basic rights, force Palestinians out of their homes and attack Palestinians in the Gaza Strip – actions that have prompted war crime investigations by the international criminal court.”

The letter condemned the decision taken by both companies to sell such technology to the Israeli authorities and demanded to cancel the deal and any future deals, which would harm people.
