Bernie Sanders Blames Democratic Loss on Abandonment of Working-Class, Support for Netanyahu

Burlington, VT (Quds News Network)– Following the Democratic Party’s defeat in the 2024 presidential election, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) issued a critique of party leadership, attributing the loss to a failure to address working-class issues and ongoing support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

In his statement, Sanders argued that the party’s distance from working-class Americans—particularly Latino, Black, and white workers—has resulted in a serious loss of trust and support.

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working-class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” Sanders said. He criticized party leaders for defending the status quo while economic hardship continues to worsen.

Sanders also highlighted healthcare as a glaring issue, decrying the US for being the only wealthy nation without guaranteed health coverage, paid family leave, or affordable prescription drugs. “Despite spending far more on healthcare than other countries, we still fail to meet the basic needs of our people,” Sanders said, underscoring the party’s failure to tackle these problems.

Sanders also took aim at the Democratic Party’s support for Israel’s current administration. He condemned US funding for Netanyahu’s policies. Describing the genocide as a “horrific humanitarian disaster,” Sanders noted that American support is fueling widespread suffering, including “mass malnutrition and the starvation of thousands of children” in Palestine, a stance that has deeply alienated many voters.

The Vermont senator questioned whether Democratic leaders would recognize their own role in the discontent, noting that the party is too often controlled by wealthy interests and political consultants. “Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign?” Sanders asked. “Probably not.”
