At least 8 people killed in Israeli airstrike on school-turned-shelter in Gaza
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Eight Palestinians were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli airstrike which targeted the Ibn al-Haytham School in the Shujayea neighborhood, east of Gaza City on Wednesday.
Those injured were taken to the nearby al-Ahli Arab (Baptist) Hospital, local sources said, adding most of the victims were children and women.
Earlier today, Israeli occupation aircraft bombarded Ibn al-Haytham School in Al-Shuja'iyya neighborhood, which shelters displaced Palestinians.

The Israeli army claimed it carried out a “precise strike” on a Hamas “command and control center embedded inside a compound that previously served as the Ibn Al-Haytham School in the area of Gaza City”.

Since the start of the war on October 7, Israeli occupation has reportedly destroyed more than 125 schools and universities in Gaza and caused partial damage to 336 others, even as many displaced Palestinians have turned these facilities into shelters.
Israel’s repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools, appear to be violations of international law, according to a June report by the UN Human Rights Council (OHCHR).
“Civilian lives and infrastructure are protected under international humanitarian law,” said OHCHR chief Volker Turk. “This law lays out the very clear obligations of parties to armed conflicts that make protection of civilians a priority.”
