Arab League’s Secretary-General says he is “sad” about intra-Palestinian reconciliation

Aboul Gheit also claimed that the UAE's normalization deal froze the Israeli annexation plans.

Cairo (QNN)- The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, doubled on his rejection of the recent intra-Palestinian reconciliation that has been achieved in Istanbul.

During an interview on the Emarati Sky News Arabic TV channel, Aboul Gheit said that he wishes that the agreements, especially those related to the elections, get implemented.

“Some parties aim at delivering a message to Arab countries by holding the meetings in Turkey”, he added. “I was thinking that Hamas’ delegation can travel to Ramallah or that Fatah’s delegation can travel to Gaza to hold the meetings there, in Cairo, or in any Arab country that may host the meetings.”

He also said that holding the Fatah-Hamas meetings in Turkey is unacceptable and that it was more appropriate to hold the meetings in Egypt or the headquarter of the Arab League.

Regarding the Emarati normalization deal with the occupation state, Aboul Gheit claimed that it froze the Israeli annexation plans, going against statements by Israel’s Netanyahu, who stressed that the annexation has not stopped and ordered to construct more settlement units throughout the West Bank.

Aboul Gheit criticized the Arab Spring popular revolutions and political Islam, which as he claimed, allowed Turkey and Iran to intervene in the region, stressing that everything before the Arab Spring was better.
