AOC introduces amendment to block US arms sale to ‘Israel’

Washington (QNN)- US Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has submitted an amendment to the annual United States defense spending bill to block the sale of precision-guided munitions to the occupation state of ‘Israel’.

According to a statement released on Thursday by her office, the resolution would prevent the transfer of Boeing Joint Direct Attack Munition weaponry under the $735 million direct commercial sale to the Israeli occupation government.

The Congresswoman introduced a resolution in the Spring with the same goal, following the death of 200 Palestinians during Israel’s 11-day aggression on the Gaza Strip last May.

This would block the transfer of the same kind of Boeing weaponry that the Israeli occupation government used to kill 44 Palestinians in one night in al-Rimal neighborhood in Gaza city.

The congresswoman introduced seven amendments that collectively seek to end U.S. practices that have contributed to human rights abuses, one amendment would block the sale of weapons to the Saudi unit that killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In a tweet, the lawmaker said that the amendment relating to ‘Israel’ was “over the bombing of Palestinian civilians, media centers,” apparently referring to the bombing of al-Jalaa tower, an 11-storey building that housed the offices of the Associated Press and Al-Jazeera.

The Biden administration notified Congress of the sale of the JDAMs on May 5 — five days before the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip which started on May 10 and ended with a ceasefire brokered by mediator Egypt on May 21, killing at least 279 Palestinians, including 69 children and 40 women and injuring 1,910 others.

The United States provides $3.8bn in military aid to ‘Israel’ annually.
