AJU to submit ICC referral to open probe into Israel crimes against journalists

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- The Arab Journalists Union (AJU) decided to start procedures to submit a referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC) calling on prosecutors to open an investigation into crimes committed by the Israeli army against journalists in Palestine.
The union announced that it has already sent an official referral to the ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to open an investigation into the occupation state’s crimes against journalists.
It also condemned Israel’s repeated crimes against Palestinian journalists, the last of which was sniping the journalist Muath Amarneh in his eye this month. Muath is the third Palestinian journalist, who loses his eye due to Israeli assaults. Journalists Atiyyeh Darweesh and Ahmad Louh lost their eyes earlier this year and in 2014.
The union urged the international community to take appropriate action to ensure the safety of journalists in Palestine. It also called on the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, to condemn the Israeli grave violations against journalists, including that against Muath Amarneh.
The union urged the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to send a fact-finding team to Palestine and ‘Israel’ in order to investigate Israeli violations against journalists.
