After Puglia, Italy’s Emilia-Romagna Cuts Ties with Israel Over Gaza Genocide

Bologna (Quds News Network)- The Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy has officially suspended all institutional relations with the Israeli government, reported local media. The move comes in response to ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza. It follows a similar decision by the region of Puglia in southern Italy.

Regional president Michele de Pascale announced the decision in a letter to officials. He urged all departments to cut ties with any Israeli entities linked to the government — unless they openly work to stop the genocide in Gaza.

“For now, we are suspending all cooperation until international law is respected,” de Pascale stated.

The region had several past cooperation projects with Israeli institutions. Under the previous administration, former president Stefano Bonaccini met with the Israeli ambassador and his deputy. These meetings can no longer take place under the new directive.

While there are currently no active economic projects with the occupation state, the decision holds strong political weight.

In his letter, de Pascale said the suspension comes in light of the “grave violence in Gaza, especially the recent massacres in Rafah.” He also cited the International Criminal Court’s ongoing case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The ICC has already issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Across Europe, pressure on Israel is growing. Mass protests and political calls for action have emerged from the UK to France.
