After 111 days, Khalil Awawdeh breaks his hunger strike

Occupied Palestine (QNN)-Palestinian administrative detainee in Israeli prisons Khalil Awawdeh has ended his hunger strike which lasted for 111 consecutive days of starving and suffering in protest against his unfair administrative detention without a charge or a trial.

Awawdeh broke on Tuesday his hunger strike after reaching an agreement with the Israeli occupation authorities not to renew his current administrative detention term, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

Awawdeh started his open-ended hunger strike on March 3 in protest against his administrative detention without a charge or trial by Israeli occupation authorities. He continued his hunger strike for 111 days despite his critical health condition.

Israeli occupation is currently holding him in the Assaf Harofeh hospital.

The PPS confirmed lately that Awawdeh suffers from loss of control over his body and severe pain in his head and limbs. The PPS added that Awawdeh also has difficulty in talking and suffers from poor vision and concentration, according to his lawyer.

The detainee has been suffering from severe fatigue, frequent vomiting and an extreme weight loss of over 25kg.

‘Israel’ detained Awawdeh, a 40-year-old resident of the southern occupied city of Hebron, on December 27, 2021. He was held at the Ofer prison, in western Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Awawdeh, who is married and a father of four girl children, has previously spent a total of 12 years in Israeli prisons for resisting the occupation, including five years of administrative detention. He was released on June 30, 2016.
