About 2,000 Palestinian Detainees Freed From Israeli Jails Under Gaza Ceasefire Deal

Occupied West Bank (QNN)- Around 2,000 Palestinian detainees were freed from Israeli prisons as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, hours after Hamas released 20 Israeli captives held in Gaza on Monday.

On Monday morning, Hamas concluded the release of 20 living Israeli captives.

In exchange, 1,968 Palestinian detainees have been released.

  • Among them are 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza.
  • Another 250 prisoners are serving life or long sentences.
  • Of those, 154 will be exiled abroad, 100 are expected to be sent to the occupied West Bank, and 15 will be released in occupied East Jerusalem.

Enormous crowds have cheered the released Palestinians getting off the buses that transported them from Ofer Prison to Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Family members and friends were seen hugging them upon their arrival.

The freed Palestinian detainees once again showed signs of torture and starvation unlike the Israeli prisoners who were released from Gaza earlier. The Israeli prisoners were reported to be in reasonable condition, able to walk without requiring medical assistance.

One detainee, Samer Halabia, said, “The conditions for detainees in Israeli jails are harsh. We’ve all lost weight.”

1,700 Palestinians who were abducted from Gaza since October 2023 also arrived Gaza.
