490 Israeli violations against journalism in 2020

Ramallah (QNN)- The president of the press syndicate on Monday said the syndicate has registered 490 Israeli violations against journalists in 2020.

Naser Abu Baker’s statement was during a conference, to view the 8th annual report of the freedoms of the press.

He said that Jerusalem came first with 106 violations. The numbers show Israeli efforts to prevent coverage of violations against native Palestinians in the capital city.

Abu Baker noted that photojournalists are the most targeted with 164 violations. Reporters come next with 90 violations, then female journalists with 63 violations.

He added that since 2012, the number of Israeli violations against the press has reached 4200 annually.

Abu Baker said the syndicate has filed a complaint at the ICC and the Special Rapporteurs for human rights.

In the same vein, the head of the freedoms committee at the syndicate said IOF shot 15 journalists in 2020. 12 journalists had direct shots while 89 got suffocated.

Muhammad Lahham added that the arrests among Palestinian journalists increased in 2020. Israeli forces arrested 36 journalists, while 44 others have been brought to court.

Lahham also said that the syndicated registered over 200 violations against the press on Facebook. He noted that Facebook, as well as other platforms, cooperate with ‘Israel’ to repress journalists.
