For supporting Palestine, Israel’s UN envoy lashes out at Harry Potter star Emma Watson
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Former Israeli envoy to the United Nations, Danny Danon, lashed out at Harry Potter star Emma Watson on Monday after the actress shared a picture on Instagram in solidarity with Palestinians.
In her post on Instagram , Watson shared a picture from a pro-Palestinian rally with the phrase, “Solidarity is a verb”.
In the caption to the post, Watson shared a quote to her 64 million followers from British-Australian activist Sara Ahmed, who said: “Solidarity does not assume that our struggles are the same struggles, or that our pain is the same pain, or that our hope is for the same future.”
The quote added, “Solidarity involves commitment, and work, as well as the recognition that even if we do not have the same feelings, or the same lives, or the same bodies, we do live on common ground.”

However, the Former Israeli ambassador to the UN, took to Twitter to lash out at the actress, sharing a screenshot of Watson’s post and writing, “10 points from Gryffindor for being an antisemite,” in reference to the Harry Potter movies in which the actress played the role of Hermione that led to her fame.

The current Israeli ambassador to the Un, Gilad Erdan, also lashed out at Watson, saying in a tweet, “Fiction may work in Harry Potter but it does not work in reality.”
Fiction may work in Harry Potter but it does not work in reality. If it did, the magic used in the wizarding world could eliminate the evils of Hamas (which oppresses women & seeks the annihilation of Israel) and the PA (which supports terror). I would be in favor of that! pic.twitter.com/u1TrP3sqSS

Social media users slammed both Erdan and Danon over their remarks.
If only you would eliminate the evils of Israeli apartheid, which seeks the elimination Of indigenous Palestinians from Jerusalem and engages in State terror. https://t.co/6AHz0Ne6sD

A few notes to Israel’s UN Amb:
– Emma Watson is right, but I understand that solidarity w/ the world’s oppressed isn’t something you’d understand (being an oppressor, yourself)
– picking a fight w/ Emma Watson is a dumb move, even for a brainless bully. https://t.co/hIo9hNvnQ4— James J. Zogby (@jjz1600) January 3, 2022

ביקורת על הכיבוש הנתעב איננה אנטישמיות אלא אנושיות.
Criticism of the occupation isn't antisemitism – it's humanism.
Your shameful, false accusations trivialize antisemitism.— Sarit Michaeli (@saritm0) January 3, 2022
In case anyone still needed proof that the very real problem of anti-semitism is being cynically exploited by defenders of Israel's violence to prolong the aggression against & apartheid imposed on the Palestinians for as long as they can. https://t.co/p3nFAOWgDb

Expressing support for Palestinians is not antisemitic
Throwing around false accusations of antisemitism like this obscures understanding of what antisemitism is and the very real threat it poses
That hurts efforts to counter antisemitism and further endangers Jews everywhere https://t.co/J2CVB5PA5V

Emma has continued to star in films post-Harry Potter, but she has also used her international platform to speak out about women’s issues, gender equality and human rights.
