200 Palestinians infected with COVID-19 in Israeli jails since start of 2021

Ramallah (QNN)- The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-detainees’ Commission said that 200 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have infected with Coronavirus since the start of this year, raising the total number of infections to 340, mainly in Ramon and the Negev prisons.
The commission’s advisor, Hassan Abed Rabbo, said that five prisoners were moved to Israeli hospitals and Al-Ramla prison clinic due to the complications of Coronavirus infection. The five prisoners are: Basil Ajaj, Abdel-Moez Al-Jubeh, Nafez Al-Hajj, Ayman Sidr, and Khaled Ghithan.
Abed Rabbo pointed out that a state of anxiety prevailing among the families of the prisoners, particularly since they are unable to visit them due to the virus restrictions, the deteriorating health conditions, and the deliberate medical negligence by the Israeli prison administration.
He noted that the so-called Israeli High Court of Justice rejected the petition submitted by the Commission to release the prisoner Hussein Masalmeh, who suffers cancer and he is now in Israeli “Soroka” hospital.
He added that the Israeli prisons administration is still isolating four prisoners, they are: Wael Al-Jaghoub who was placed in isolation at “Megiddo” prison 210 days ago, Fadwa Hamadeh 82 days ago in isolation at Damon Detention Center, Omar Kharwat more than 47 days ago, and Nawal Al-Fatihah at Damon Detention Center a week ago.
Abed Rabbo added that the two brothers Bilal and Bassam Diab from Kafr Rai in Jenin are continuing their open hunger strike for the 12th day, in protest against the poor conditions of their detention.
According to the commission, 700 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails suffer from various diseases, 40 of whom suffer from severe diseases such as cancer and kidney failure.
‘Israel’ is holding about 4,400 Palestinian prisoners, including 40 women, in its prisons, while the number of child detainees is about 170, and administrative detainees (held without charge) are about 380.
