192 Palestinian Journalists Killed in Israeli Attacks Since Start of Gaza Genocide
Gaza (Quds News Network)- 192 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks since the start of the ongoing Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office. The most recent victim was a journalist with Quds News Network.
The Office condemned on Saturday “the targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation,” holding it “fully responsible for committing this heinous crime and calling on the international community and those involved in global journalism to deter the occupation and pursue it in international courts for its ongoing crimes.”
“We urge pressure to be applied to stop the genocide and the killing and assassination of Palestinian journalists.”
Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has been considered the deadliest for journalists and media workers in the world in 30 years.
The International Federation of Journalists said the mortality rate for media workers in Gaza is over 10 percent.
Seventy-five percent of all reporters killed in the world in 2023 were killed between October 7 and the end of last year.
Critics accuse Israel – which banned foreign reporters from entering Gaza – of targeting journalists in the Palestinian territory to obscure the truth about its war crimes there.
“Deliberately targeting journalists is a war crime under international law. This attack must be independently investigated and the perpetrators must be held to account,” Programme Director at Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Carlos Martinez de la, said.
“He Was Killed Twice”
Maisara Salah, the journalist with Quds News Network, has been killed by Israeli forces in northern Gaza. Salah worked in the network’s editing and design department.
He was shot in the head and abdomen near Harithani School a few days ago, where he was covering the Israeli assault. The school had become a shelter for displaced families under dire humanitarian conditions.
After the attack, Salah was rushed to Kamal Adwan Hospital. Doctors determined he needed urgent surgeries. However, Israeli forces delayed his transfer to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital for eight hours. The delay caused his condition to worsen. Salah died in an ambulance before reaching Al-Shifa Hospital.
Quds News Network mourned Salah in a statement. It condemned his killing as a direct result of Israeli aggression. “The occupation is fully responsible for his death,” the network said. “He was killed twice: first by their bullets, then by their denial of his right to treatment.”
The network called on international organizations to protect Palestinian journalists. It urged action to stop crimes targeting media workers in conflict zones.
The Palestinian Media Forum also issued a statement. It condemned Israel’s attacks on journalists, noting Salah’s death adds to a rising toll.
The forum criticized the global silence on these violations. It called for urgent international intervention to protect journalists and ensure their right to report safely.
Salah’s death highlights the dangers faced by Palestinian journalists. Despite the risks, they continue their work to reveal the truth about the ongoing genocide.
