EU ‘deeply worried’ by Israeli plans to build settlement units in South Jerusalem

Brussels (QNN)- Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, has expressed his concerns over Israel’s decision to build new settlement units in the illegal settlement of Givat Hamatos in South Jerusalem.
Deeply worried by Israel's decision to open tenders for new settlement at Givat Hamatos.
Building will seriously damage prospects for a two-state solution in line with international law. We call on Israel to reverse this negative step.

In a statement released on Sunday, Borrell said that any settlement construction will cause “serious damage to the prospects for a viable and contiguous Palestinian State.”
He also added, “The Government of Israel should instead show vision and responsibility and reverse these negative decisions at this critical and sensitive time.”
Borrell stated that the EU has repeatedly called on the occupation state to end all settlement activity and insisted on the “EUâs firm position that settlements are illegal under international law.”
Israeli authorities have advanced plans to construct settlement units in the illegal settlement of Givat HaMatos in South Jerusalem as the Israeli Land Authority announced on its website on Sunday.
